Every year, The Surfer’s Journal (TSJ) releases a short film called “A Moment of Reflection”— a respectful remembrance of surfers who passed away the previous year. It’s beautifully done and always stops me in my tracks. It’s worth taking a few minutes to watch it all the way through (9 minutes).
If you’re new to TSJ, they were founded in 1992 in San Clemente by Steve and Debbee Pezman and have some of the best surfing photography you’ll find anywhere. It’s a class act. I even look forward to the ads – they’re beautiful too!
What gets me is how many of the names are so very young. In the 2025 film, by my count, sixteen were under 40, and eight of those were under 30. That’s sobering.
As I watch each face and read their name, I can’t help but wonder if they had any knowledge of the perfect waves awaiting them in Heaven. God bless them—and the families and friends who loved them.
